Special Visit Visa Guideline
UK Special Visit Visas are the alternative to all other Visit Visas. A Special Visit Visa is for someone who wants to come to visit the UK but are not a tourist, business visitor, entertainer or sports visitor. The applicant may be a child visitor, or the parent of a child student in the UK. With a Special Visit Visa they may be visiting for private medical treatment; however will not be able to receive treatment on the NHS. The applicant could be coming to get married or simply passing through. You are entitled to spend up to 48 hours in the UK, passing through without a Visa.
Duration of a Special Visit Visa
A Special Visit Visa lasts for up to two years if granted for more than one entry to the UK. However the applicant can only stay in the UK for up to six months. They must be prepared to leave the UK after this time so it is advisable to plan the trip carefully.

There are many benefits of visiting the UK on a Special Visit Visa. The applicant will be able to stay here for up to six months and will experience the Great British culture whilst they’re here. The UK Special Visit Visa enables the applicant to bring their children or dependents with them for their entire visit and is free to come and go from the UK as they please during their stay. With a special Visit Visa the applicant could also take part in any kind of voluntary work or activity they like without pay.
Special Visit Visa eligibility
We base our decisions on your eligibility on the Home Office and UK Border Agency criteria. For a Special Visitor Visa for the UK the applicant should visit with no intention to work, study, or use public funds in the UK. When applying for a Special Visit Visa the following factors are considered:
- How long you will visit
- Whether you will leave the UK after your visit
- Your ability to support yourself financially
- You will not work or study during your stay
- Your age
- Whether you are bringing dependents with you
- Your ability to pay for your departure flight
The applicant must be prepared to leave home at the end of six months in the UK.
Dependents
With a Special Visit Visa the applicant may bring their dependents with them to the UK. They must, however be able to financially support them for their entire stay.
