Immigration caps may harm universities
Nicola Dandridge, the chief executive of the higher education action group, of Universities UK has claimed that the success and reputation of UK universities could be at risk if further restrictions are placed on applicants.
These claims come after further restrictions on entry into the UK have been promised by UK immigration minister, Damian Green. A new target has been set by the UK's new coalition government to reduce the number of people immigrating to the UK.

Immigration cap undergoing consultation
The new immigration cap is currently undergoing consultation between the UK Coalition Government and the public to look at how it should work in practice. This will mainly effect Tier 1 and Tier 2 Visa applications.
Concerns have arisen in the UK that there have been unconstrained levels of immigration that have consequently put pressure on public services, schools and housing. Although UK immigration wish to attract the brightest and best people to the UK they do not wish to have uncontrolled migration.

Victims of domestic violence without indefinite leave to remain
You may be able to apply for definite leave to remain if your relationship with a British citizen or a person settled in the UK has broken down as result of domestic violence. You may also be eligible for financial help through the Sojourner project.
For most people who apply to come to the UK the 'no recourse to public funds' policy is a general rule.

Certificate of Approval due to be abolished
The 'certificate of approval' for UK Immigration is due to be abolished within the next 6 months. As the matter stands, if you are an immigrant wishing to marry or register civil partnership in the UK you will initially need to apply for a certificate of approval. The exception of this matter is if you aspire to marry in an Anglican church.

Cameron to consult with India about UK Visa cap
India may be offered a say on the plans for Britain's new immigration policy. David Cameron is facing criticism that the proposed UK Visa cap will harm trade links between India and the UK.
The government introduced a temporary UK visa cap on non-EU immigration earlier this month and is currently consulting with the public and business leaders on the permanent cap that is due to be introduced in April next year.

English Language tests introduced for UK student Visa applicants
The student tier of the points-based immigration system is undergoing important changes by the UK Border Agency, including introducing secure English language tests.
On 12th August 2010, UK immigration will implement secure English Language tests for students under Tier 4 of the points based system.
