India may be offered a say on the plans for Britain’s new immigration policy.
David Cameron is facing criticism that the proposed UK Visa cap will harm trade links between India and the UK.
The government introduced a temporary UK visa cap on non-EU immigration earlier this month and is currently consulting with the public and business leaders on the permanent cap that is due to be introduced in April next year.
Vince Cable, the business secretary and David Willetts, the universities minister will be joining David Cameron and four other cabinet ministers on their visit to India.
India is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and Mr Cameron hopes to increase the £11.5bn a year that Britain’s trade links add up to.
New Delhi may ignore David Cameron’s suggestion to reduce barriers to foreign investment in banking, insurance and defence manufacturing if they feel they will be excluded from Britain.
