Visa scandal at University of Wales

A BBC TV documentary has alleged that overseas students were offered help to cheat their way to University of Wales validated degrees and visas.

The show revealed that students bought diplomas exempting them from work for the MBAs, which then entitled them to apply for a UK visa to stay in Britain.

Since the revelation, the UKBA has launched an inquiry and investigations are underway.

Five universities have called for the University of Wales (UoW) title to be scrapped amid claims about the validation of its qualifications.

In a statement, the vice-chancellors – known as the St David’s Day Group – say they are appalled by the revelations about “certain institutions whose qualifications are validated by the University of Wales”.

A statement read: “This in no way reflects the excellent standard of education provided by universities in Wales. The changes announced this week by the University of Wales represent a fundamental change to the university’s mission and the institution now needs a new title which reflects this considerably changed role – we are no longer able to accept it as the University of Wales.

This recent scam validates the fact that the college and university system in Britain is in trouble.
