Immigration Minister Damian Green has officially opened the UK Border Agency’s new offices for the Southwest in Plymouth.
The immigration Minister praised the work done in the Southwest after meeting the officers who patrol the coastline of Devon and Cornwall targeting drug smugglers.
Between January and June this year, 153 illegal immigrants were deported by the Plymouth office.
Over 25 raids are carried out by this team every month targeting illegal immigrants across the two countries.
From January to June this year, civil penalty notices totalling over £300,000 were handed out to 54 businesses in the region after being caught employing illegal immigrants.
Damian Green Said: “The teams based in Plymouth have been very successful in tracking down people who should not be in the UK.
“Keeping Britain’s border secure is a top priority for this government.”
