Following an investigation by UK Border Agency officers, a Pakistani woman who used fake identity to claim asylum and benefits in the UK has been jailed.
Kiran Ali was tracked down by officers after she was found to be using a false identity and seeking leave to remain in the UK by deception.
UKBA officers have identified that Kiran Ali, who claims to be 24 years old is actually Kiran Shaokat aged 39.
Kiran pleaded guilty on 26 July and has since been sentenced to 48 weeks in prison.
Dave Magrath, head of North West, criminal financial investigation team, UK Border Agency said:
‘I welcome the prison term handed down in this case, and I hope it’ll act as a deterrent to others who think they can cheat the system.
‘Using deception to obtain leave to remain in the UK is a serious offence and anyone who does so can expect to face arrest, jail and removal from the country.’
