Concerns Over UK Immigration Cap
A report has found that the proposed immigration cap could affect less than one in 100 migrants entering the UK.
The report by the Commons Home Affairs Select Committee has found that the government will need to look at other routes such as students and those people joining family members in the UK, if they are to reduce net migration from hundreds of thousands to tens of thousands by 2015.
MPs have said that to bring the numbers down migrants may even have to be stripped of their right to settle in the UK. The committee have said that other measures will have to be introduced alongside the cap to reduce net migration.
Committee chairman Keith Vaz said; “the government should direct its efforts to tackling those who abuse the system – bogus colleges and visa overstayers – rather than penalising legitimate students.”
